About Shiva Mantras

Shiva mantras are powerful sacred sounds and vibrations that invoke the divine energy of Lord Shiva. These ancient Vedic chants have been used for thousands of years for spiritual awakening, protection, and material as well as spiritual prosperity.

Regular chanting of Shiva mantras purifies the mind, removes negative energies, and connects the practitioner with the supreme consciousness. Each mantra has specific benefits and is chanted for different purposes.

The Five-Syllable Mantra - Most powerful and universal Shiva mantra

This mantra represents the five elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Space) and the five actions of Shiva. It is considered the heart of the Vedas and grants all wishes when chanted with devotion.

ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् । उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय माऽमृतात् ॥

Om Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam | Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat ||

We worship the three-eyed one (Shiva) who is fragrant and nourishes all beings. May he liberate us from death for the sake of immortality.

Shiva Gayatri Mantra

ॐ तत्पुरुषाय विद्महे महादेवाय धीमहि । तन्नो रुद्रः प्रचोदयात् ॥

Om Tatpurushaya Vidmahe Mahadevaya Dhimahi | Tanno Rudrah Prachodayat ||

We meditate on the supreme being. We contemplate on Mahadeva. May Rudra inspire and illuminate our understanding.

करचरणकृतं वाक्कायजं कर्मजं वा श्रवणनयनजं वा मानसं वापराधम् । विहितमविहितं वा सर्वमेतत्क्षमस्व जय जय करुणाब्धे श्रीमहादेव शम्भो ॥

Karacharana Kritam Vak Kayajam Karmajam Va | Shravana Nayanajam Va Manasam Vaparadham | Vihitam Avihitam Va Sarvametat Kshamasva | Jaya Jaya Karunaabdhe Shree Mahadeva Shambho ||

General Rules

    Chant early morning after bath

    Face East or North direction

    Sit in a clean, peaceful place

    Use rudraksha mala for counting

    Chant with concentration and devotion

Recommended Counts

    108 times (one mala) - daily practice

    1008 times - for special occasions

    10,000 times - for specific wishes

    125,000 times - Purashcharana (spiritual practice)

    Always chant in multiples of 108
